PSNI gearing up for summer drink driving crackdown

The Police Service of Northern Ireland have released new figures indicating that over 1,400 motorists have been arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving so far in 2019.

The figures come in advance of the launch of a new anti-drink driving campaign across Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

This intensified period of vigilance will occur over the coming weeks across Northern Ireland, with breathalyser tests being employed as an important road safety tool.

Road safety is an ongoing concern for the PSNI, and they have been dedicated to combatting drink and drug driving through various preventative and educational campaigns. While, according to PSNI statistics, the number of fatalities on our roads has been decreasing year on year, to have such a high number of drink/drunk driving arrests points to the a lot of work still to be done.
