Divorcing couples offered free mediation service

By Lenore Rice

Northern Ireland couples who are considering a divorce, but have not yet begun court proceedings, can avail of a free family mediation service which is being funded by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS), and provided by Family Mediation NI.

The mediation service is designed to help separating couples come to an agreement over the various issues that will arise during a divorce, such as child residency and contact, child maintenance, and the division of assets. The end result should hopefully be a jointly negotiated settlement achieved without having to go through the court system, which can often prove stressful and complicated.

Anyone interested in the family mediation sessions can call 028 90243265 for information on the different venues throughout Northern Ireland were the service is being offered. You can also click here to visit the Family Mediation NI website for more information.
