NIC savings for Northern Ireland employers for 6th April 2014

George Osborne has written to employers in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK to make sure they know about the new £2,000 Employment Allowance which will be introduced on 6 April.

The letter encourages businesses to take advantage of the opportunity to claim the new allowance which will be offset against every employer's Class 1 secondary NICs from April 2014. The allowance will be claimed as part of the normal payroll process through RTI.

You can claim the Employment Allowance if you are a business or charity (including Community Amateur Sports Clubs) that pays employer Class 1 NICs on your employees’ or directors’ earnings.

You can only claim the £2,000 Employment Allowance against one PAYE scheme, even if your business runs multiple schemes. However not all businesses can claim the Employment Allowance and employers should check with HMRC before any claim is made.
