Mother in custody battle caught drink driving with kids

By Gary Adair

A woman who is involved in a custody battle with the father of her children has been caught drink driving with her three young kids in the car after a night out at the pub.

Sarah Jane Eaton, aged 42, had lost the right of residency in respect of her children after a previous offence. The three children currently live with her husband, but on 17th April Mrs Eaton had the kids and took them with her to the pub. At 11.30pm a police officer noticed Mrs Eaton's car driving erratically, and she was described as being clearly drunk when her car stopped outside her home. She was physically restrained and arrested after shouting and disturbing neighbours and not responding to requests to calm down. She tested over the legal drink drive limit.

Mrs Eaton was ordered to pay costs of £145 and surcharge, carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, and was disqualified from driving for 26 months. The biggest impact could however be on her ongoing battle with her husband to get custody of her children, and highlights how the consequences of a drink driving prosecution or other motoring offence can be more far-reaching than just losing your licence.
