Number of Domestic Abuse Cases in Northern Ireland at Record High
New statistics published by the Police Service of Northern Ireland reveal that the number of domestic abuse incidents in Northern Ireland are now at a record high.
The statistics, which cover the year to March 31, detail a total of 31,682 recorded by the PSNI. This figure represents an increase of 5.9% from the previous year.
The PSNI respond to a domestic abuse incident every 17 minutes.
These figures coincide with the launch of the PSN’s new anti-domestic abuse campaign, which is to run over the summer across its various social media platforms. Incidents of domestic abuse tend to increase during the summer months, and so the PSNI campaign is aimed at educating people to recognise the signs of abuse, as well as encouraging those suffering abuse to come forward.
Alongside the campaign, the PSNI have a 24-hour Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline available on 0808 802 1414 and employ dedicated domestic abuse officers.
