New report reveals the Northern Ireland roads with the most speeding motorists

New statistics released by the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership have revealed that almost 41,000 speed-related offences were recorded in 2018, an increase of over 30% from 2017.

This figure represents the equivalent of 112 speed-related offences detected every day on average..

Moreover, the report revealed that the fixed speed camera on the Upper Newtownards Road in East Belfast was the busiest in the country, detecting 2,545 speeding offences in 2018, a marked increase on the 1,717 offences detected in 2017.

Other speed camera figures present in the report included:

• The Frosses Road/Crankill Road in Co. Antrim, which is monitored by a mobile speed camera van,, detected 1,946 speeding offences in 2018
• The fixed speed camera on the Saintfield Road in Belfast reported 1,460 detections in 2018
• The Antrim Road, also monitored by a fixed speed camera, detected 1,324 speeding offences in 2018, up from 935 in 2017

These statistics come a few weeks after the Police Service of Northern Ireland announced a campaign of increased vigilance for over the summer months, including a crackdown on drink and drug driving.
